About us News London Landmarks Half Marathon 2026 The runners who participated pledged their miles to support our cause and raised £3,642 for Link Age Southwark. Let's meet our fundraisers! First up is volunteer befriender, Abbey, who started meeting with Inez in 2023. Inez sadly passed away last year and Abbey ran in her honour. In a tribute to Inez, she recounts beautifully Inez’s warmth, welcomeness, strength and resilience. Abbey and Inez shared a wonderful connection and found solace and community in each other’s company. We have a brand new volunteer, Rebecca, whose first (very aspirational) volunteer dedication was to run the half-marathon and raise a beautiful sum of £500. Then we have Harry, who’s been visiting Colin for little over a year, both say their relationship has offered them perspective as well as comfort. Colin struggles getting out of the house, but with Harry’s help, he was able to join for a good-old-fashioned pie and mash at the Ivy House - read about Harry and Colin here. Next is Neha, who meets her befriending relationship, Peter, once a week for a well-deserved coffee. In an interview last year, Peter explained that he could go for a week without speaking to anyone - now Peter and Neha describe swapping life stories as well as seeds and herbs. Read Peter and Neha’s story here. Alan has been associated with Link Age Southwark for almost ten years, not only does he befriend Verna, 81, he supports our community events, and he’s now run 13 miles for the charity! These runners came together to support a cause that touches the lives of so many. As they trained and prepared for the marathon, they weren't just running for themselves – they were running for the older community in Southwark who deserve love, companionship and support. Thank you for showing your support to our incredible runners and Link Age Southwark by donating and helping us surpass our fundraising targets! Together, you have made a difference so that no one feels alone or isolated in their later years. Manage Cookie Preferences
